Broken Arrow Elementary

"Broken Arrow...where everyone is both a teacher and a learner."

Built in 1968, Broken Arrow Elementary School sits on eight acres of land adjacent to South Junior High School and Broken Arrow Park in south central Lawrence. The United States Bureau of Indian Affairs donated the land through the Haskell Institute (now Haskell Indian Nations University). The school's name, Broken Arrow, is considered a sign of peace and was suggested to honor the Native American background of the land. The school serves about 270 students in grades K-6.

Did You Know? Broken Arrow Elementary ranks among the top five percent of Kansas elementary schools. The United States Department of Education named Broken Arrow Elementary a National Blue Ribbon School for student achievement in 2009. Broken Arrow also earned the Governor's Achievement Award for outstanding student performance on the 2007 math and reading state assessments. Way to go!!!
