Basic Requirements

You must be at least 18 years of age

You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

You have NOT been convicted of certain felonies within a specific time-frame

Education, Examinations and Applications:

1. You must successfully complete a 30-hour Principles of Real Estate course from an accredited school and must receive a completion certificate. You may take classes in the classroom, by home-study, or by a modified home-study course. *Cost: $195.00

2. Take the Kansas State Exam You must pass this exam within 12 months of the date of your education certificate. You must pass the closed-book and timed exam with a score of approximately 75% for each section (State and National) of the two-part exam. Once you pass either the State or the National section of the exam, a certificate will be issued for that portion of the exam. The certificates are valid for 6 months. Cost: $75 each time the exam is taken.

3. Complete a 30-Hour Practice Course: You receive a course book and an open-book test with multiple choice options. You need to achieve a score of at least 90% to pass. If you don´t pass we will tell you which questions you missed and you will re-do just those questions. Once you pass the open book test (you have achieved a score of at least 90%) you will receive your Practice Course certificate. *Cost: $135.00

4. KBI/FBI Criminal Background Check: You will be provided with a finger-printing kit from either the Kansas Real Estate Commission or you may pick one up at PearsonVue upon completion of the Kansas State Exam. *Cost: $64.00

5. Affiliate with a Broker: Kansas requires that you work under the umbrella of a broker for a minimum of 2 years. You don’t need to affiliate with a broker before you can proceed with any of the steps prior to submitting your application, but you will need to be affiliated before applying for your license. 6. Apply for Your Real Estate License: After you pass the State Exam and have affiliated with a Broker you may apply for your license with the Kansas Real Estate Commission (KREC) within 6 months of passing the exam (before any of your certificates expire). License Application Fee: $15. License Fee: $100.
