We’re proud to welcome Joni Alexander to McGrew Real Estate. Joni brings a wide-ranging and deeply rooted background in real estate, business, and design, along with a strong connection to the Lawrence community that spans more than 25 years.
Joni first came to Lawrence in 1997 to attend the University of Kansas, earning a degree in Anthropology and buying her first home by the age of 23. That early leap into real estate kicked off more than two decades of hands-on experience. From residential renovations and investment properties to Airbnb and property management, Joni has maintained a steady and creative presence in the real estate world, even while building an impressive career in another industry.
Many in Lawrence know Joni as the co-founder of Alchemy Coffee & Bake House, an award-winning local favorite that operated for nearly 10 years. Alchemy was recognized not just for its menu and hospitality, but also for its thoughtfully designed spaces — even earning a feature in Architectural Digest as one of the most beautiful shops in Kansas. Joni was the creative force behind Alchemy’s branding, interior design, and much of its menu, balancing entrepreneurship with motherhood and an ongoing commitment to community.
Throughout that chapter, she never stepped away from real estate. Joni continued working on residential renovations, consulting on design, and managing both long-term and short-term properties. Her most recent home renovation sold in just three days and set a record for price per square foot on the Lawrence MLS.
Now turning her full attention to real estate, Joni brings a rare mix of practical knowledge, design instinct, and personal connection. She’s passionate about helping people feel confident and informed as they navigate the buying or selling process. With her deep roots in Lawrence, creative eye, and love for building strong relationships, she’s a natural fit for the McGrew team.
